What are Dental Implants?
Teeth in a Day allows you to replace missing or failing teeth with dental implants in a single day. To understand the procedure, you first have to know what dental implants are. A dental implant consists of three parts: a post made of medical-grade titanium and other biologically compatible materials that is surgically implanted into the bone of your jaw, a prosthetic tooth designed specifically to match your mouth and existing teeth, and an abutment that allows the dentist to connect the two together. After the post is inserted, the cells of your jaw heal and grow around the titanium post, incorporating it into the bone in a process called osseointegration. This process creates a stable, permanent anchor for your replacement teeth.
How Is Teeth in a Day Different?
Traditional dental implants take weeks, even months before the permanent replacement teeth can be attached. If you need several teeth replaced, or even a full arch, you may need multiple surgeries. With Teeth in a Day, you only need one day of surgery, and can often start eating (chewing food) less than a day after the procedure. Ten years ago, dentists thought this was impossible. How Does it Work?
The first step to Teeth in a Day is to get a 3D CT scan of your mouth. This scan shows where your bone is strongest and helps us plan where to place the implants. Then our prosthodontist will use impressions of your teeth to make your new prosthetic teeth. These teeth are made of either high-quality acrylic, porcelain, or a tooth-colored substance called zirconia, and are designed to match your mouth and remaining teeth.
Once all of the planning is done, you will be ready for your implants. First, you will receive local or general anesthesia to keep you comfortable. Then we will extract any remaining failing teeth, and surgically place the implants into your jawbone. Finally, a temporary but functional set of prosthetic teeth will be fitted onto your arch to promote healing. We will provide specific instructions for pain management, special diet, and care of your new implants while you heal. Meanwhile, your prosthodontist will make your final teeth, and they will be fixed in about three months. Your new teeth will look, function, and feel like regular teeth, and you will be ready to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
